AUG 02, 2005 (newstodate): The general decline in export airfreight in the Danish air cargo market hit hard on Billund Airport in August.
After a long record of monthly growth, the airport was down 5.4 percent in total volumes in August, to 4,304 tonnes, mainly due to a fall in exports by 14.8 percent, to 2,013 tonnes.
On the positive side, imports continued to grow, reaching 4.7 percent to 2,291 tonnes.
-We handled very significant volumes of relief cargo shipments in August 2004, but there is definitely a sustained general decline in Danish airfreight exports this fall, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport Cargo Manager.
For January-August, the trend remains positive, with total volumes up 9.8 percent to 34,185 tonnes, including 17,845 tonnes of exports, up 9.1 percent.
