SEP 21, 2005 (newstodate): Russia's second-largest cargo carrier, Volga-Dnepr plans for a major expansion in 2005.
The carrier will acquire some 29 Russian-built freighters and about 10 more Boeing 747 freighters for its subsidiary, AirBridge Cargo that currently operates two jumbo freighters, according to the Marketing Department, AsstrA Associated Traffic AG, Minsk representative office.
In 2004 Volga-Dnepr, including SkyBridge Cargo, lifted a total of 80,310 tonnes of air cargo, up 26.6 percent in 2004, while sales increased by 32.6 percent, y-o-y.
The company now holds 54 percent of the world market for oversize cargo.
In 2004, AirBridge Cargo became the first Russian operator to deliver goods between Europe and Asia on Boeing 747 freighters.
