SEP 23, 2005 (newstodate): Russian carrier UTAir is preparing to introduce its ATR-42 aircraft on domestic routes from start of this winter's program.
In October 2004, ATR succesfully landed a tender by UTair to deliver five ATR42-300 aircraft to gradually replace the carrier's existing fleet of 30 AN-24 and Yak-40 aircraft.
On April 1, 2005, UTair also signed a contract for the purchase of 2 ex-Continental Airlines ATR 42-300 to develop its regional market.
To accomodate this traffic, airports including Moscow Domodedovo Airport have been certified to handle the aircraft type.
