SEP 16, 2005 (newstodate): Scheduled flights between Japan and Iceland may seem a distant vision, but the issue was on the agenda in meetings between the Japanese foreign minister and his Icelandic colleague, visiting Japan with a business delegation this week.
The Japanese foreign minister reportedly showed interest in regular scheduled flights between Iceland and Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya.
While the size of Iceland's market for passenger flights might not warrant a service, the driver could be export of fresh Icelandic fish to the Japanese market, with other products including Icelandic hi-tech industries on the sideline as well.
The two countries are also considering opening talks on a free trade agreement within few years.
