SEP 29, 2005 (newstodate): With the announcement of the take-over by SAS Cargo of Sterling's GSA company, formerly Marsk Air Cargo, negotiations with airline customers will start.
Maersk Air Cargo's portfolio includes airBaltic, bmi Cargo, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Estonian Air, Iberia, South African Airways, Qatar Airways and UPS Air Cargo.
-We will talk to each of these companies about their future decision on the GSA issue, and we of course hope they will decide to stay with us, says Ulrik Marschal, SAS Cargo head of corporate communications.
bmi, airBaltic and Estonian Air are owned or part-owned by SAS and will probably have no problems with their capacity being sold by a SAS Cargo GSA company.
Finnair, Cathay Pacific and Iberia are members of the oneworld Alliance, while South African Airways, bmi and SAS are in the Star Alliance.
The focus is especially on Finnair Cargo that is in a close competition with SAS Cargo in the Nordic and Baltic markets, but the company refuses to comment on the situation.
