SEP 28, 2005 (newstodate): As anticipated, SAS Cargo has acquired Maersk Air Cargo, the GSA company now part of Sterling after the recent Icelandic take-over of Maersk Air.
The acquisition takes effect from October 1, and comprises Maersk Air Cargo's offices in the Nordic and Baltic regions with a total of 22 staff.
-The takeover of this activity marks a new and exciting chapter in SAS Cargo's history. In addition to our current business we will now also focus on growth in the GSA business and be able to sell freight capacity on aircraft not owned by the SAS Group. With this we are able to offer freight customers transport solutions from the Nordic and Baltic countries to destinations currently outside our reach, says Kenneth Marx, SAS Cargo President and CEO.
The portfolio of Maersk Air Cargo comprises airBaltic, bmi Cargo, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Estonian Air, Iberia, South African Airways, Qatar Airways and UPS Air Cargo.
