SEP 14, 2005 (newstodate): According to the Icelandic Broadcasting Service, talks may be going on between the FL Group that owns Icelandair, and the Icelandic investment group Fons that purchased Sterling and Maersk Air and is now in the process of merging the two airlines.
The Icelandic paper Morgunbladid further claims that FL Group representatives are already in Copenhagen to negotiate with Sterling.
-These discussions are just starting and it is not clear how they will conclude, Hannes Sm�rason, chairman of FL Group, told another Icelandic paper, Frettabladid.
The merged Sterling/Maersk Air will become Europe's fourth largest low cost carrier. Fons also owns the Icelandic lcc Iceland Express, while the FL Group has invested in EasyJet.
