SEP 14, 2005 (newstodate): Focus has turned onto the future for Maersk Air Cargo after the acquisition by Icelandic investors of Maersk Air and its merger with Sterling as the continuing company.
Maersk Air Cargo's business concept comprised sale of cargo capacity on the Maersk Air fleet, and GSA activities for airline principals including airBaltic, BMI Cargo, Cathay Pacific Cargo, Estonian Air, Finnair Cargo, Iberia, Qatar Airways Cargo, South African Airways, and UPS Air Cargo.
Sources claim that SAS Cargo is in negotiations with Sterling to acquire Maersk Air Cargo, aiming at transfering the GSA activities to a new SAS Cargo subsidiary similar to the model of its handling subsidiary Spirit and its forwarding arm, Trust.
No official statements to confirm this has, however, not been made by either party.
