SEP 23, 2005 (newstodate): The Icelandic Avion Group has placed an order for four Boeing 777 freighters, also securing purchase rights for a further two aircraft.
The aircraft will be placed with Avion's ACMI lease subsidiary, Air Atlanta Icelandic.
In addition, Avion and Boeing are in negotiations to convert three Air Atlanta Icelandic 747-400 passenger airplanes into 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters.
The combined value of the four 777 freighters and the three 747-400 BCFs at Boeing list prices is approximately USD1 billion.
-As part of the Air Atlanta Icelandic fleet renewal plan, the Boeing 777 Freighter will provide a new dimension in our ability to serve our customers. The 777F has outstanding capability and efficiency in terms of low fuel consumption, maintenance and operating costs, and will provide a good complement to the 747 Freighters that many of our customers already operate, says Magnus Thorsteinsson, Avion Group executive chairman.
