SEP 15, 2005 (newstodate): Serbian carrier JAT is reportedly negotiating a new agrement with Airbus to break the deadlock.
The current controversy arose from an earlier deal in 1998 with Airbus on the purchase of eight A319 aircraft slated for delivery by 2005.
The order signed by the former Milosovic government included downpayment of USD23 mill on a deal worth a total of USD 360 million.
In 2004 JAT was reportedly close to a deal with Boeing instead for acquisition of eight Boeing 737-800, and the lease of two Boeing 767ER aircraft.
Late December, 2004, the Canadian-owned company Donald Banker was contracted to identify a new customer for the eight Airbus aircraft within the framework of four months, to relieve JAT of the obligation for 19 out of the USD23 million frozen by Airbus.
JAT's General Director Nebojsa Starcevic is currently in France to sign the new deal with Airbus for delivry of a reduced number of A319 aircraft, with the first two reportedly to be delivered this year already.
