SEP 29, 2005 (newstodate): air cargo volumes at Swedish airport Gothenburg continued to drop in August that was down by 17 percent, y-o-y, to 4,327 tonnes.
For the period January-August, the accumulated decline is 10 percent, to a total of 36,479 tonnes of cargo.
Exports fared the worst, down 31 percent to 1,718 tonnes in August, and 24 percent to 14,832 tonnes during the first eight months of this year. But imports also dropped five percent to 2,609 tonnes in August, while still up three percent, but declining, to 21,647 tonnes during Januar-August.
The sustained drop is primarily due to Polar Air Cargo that shifted operations from Gothenburg to Malmoe Airport, and a further drop in volumes may be expected from this month when Lufthansa Cargo and Japan Airlines Cargo start a new freighter service from Oslo to Nagoya, relocating shipments of salmon for Japan away from Gothenburg.
