SEP 29, 2005 (newstodate): Czech carrier CSA expects its upgrade of the turbo-prop fleet and the transition into modern types of aircraft in its medium-distance fleet to induce greater cost-efficiency in CSA's operations.
This is the crux of the carrier's on-going efforts to cope with the overall negative developments facing the global airline industry, primarily resulting from the continuing high and rising fuel prices and the effects from global terrorism.
CSA's strategies for responding to these developments within the industry, which have caused the airline's costs to soar in 2005 by more than CZK 1 billion just for the cost of jet fuel, are focused around its attempts to accelerate the company's transformation.
Enhancements of electronic distribution channels, restructuring of its foreign branches and of its businesses in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and the operations of its long-distance fleet are among issues considered by CSA as ways to boost its profitability.
The airline has started replacing its ageing ATR-42 and ATR-72 fleet of aircraft with a total of seven aircraft ATR-42-500, and has ordered 12 medium-haul Airbus A320 family aircraft to replace its current fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.
