SEP 07, 2005 (newstodate): The opening of China's air cargo market has a strong negative impact on neighbouring Taiwan.
Thus the airport of Taipei and Kaohsiung Harbor have seen negative trends in cargo volumes during January-July.
During the period, total cargo volumes at Taipei Chiang Kaishek Airport dropped 3.1 percent, including imports down nine percent, and exports down six percent.
In July alone, the airport saw its total volumes down five percent.
The Taiwan Air Cargo Terminal has seen both imports and exports dropping, while transfer cargo has increased by 100,000 tonnes annually since 2000.
Gemini Air Cargo suspended its flights to Taiwan in April this year, and Polar Air Cargo followed suit from June. Also Northwest Airlines has halved its cargo flights at Taipei's airport.
