SEP 16, 2005 (newstodate): The board of Aeroflot will demand official guarantees from the producers of the IL-96-300 that the new aircraft of this series to be acquired within the next years are free from the same manufacturing defects that has grounded the current fleet of IL-96 aircraft since August 22.
These guarantees will be written into the contracts with developer, manufacturer and leasing company for six IL-96-300 currently ordered by Aeroflot.
In a statement the Aeroflot board confirms that "it is still uncertain when all the explored defects will be fixed and when this aircraft is allowed back to service."
Aeroflot says that "with six aircraft of this type in operation, Aeroflot has practically lost 40 percent of its long distance vehicles and is bearing significant losses, while the passengers face a range of inconveniences with regard to the schedule changes, aircraft replacement and induced connected flights."
