SEP 20, 2005 (newstodate): The significant growth in Aeroflot's cargo volumes in 2004 was due primarily to its freighter operations.
In total the carrier lifted 145,600 tonnes of air cargo and mail, and 40.3 percent, or 58,600 tonnes, was carried by freighters, according to a study provided by AsstrA Associated Traffic AG, Minsk representative office.
The Aeroflot cargo volumes on freighters increased by 85 percent in 2004, y-o-y.
The growth in regular cargo flights derived from the introduction of DC-10-30F, replacing the IL-76 cargo operations.
Also in 2004, the company launched regular cargo flights between Helsinki and Moscow, increased the number of flights to Hong Kong and Shanghai, and developed regular truck services between its European hub at Frankfurt Hahn and Amsterdam, Paris and Milan.
In 2005, Aeroflot plans to expand combined transportation of cargo through Hahn airport and introduce regular road transportation route for cargo delivery between Frankfurt Hahn and London.
