In 2004, the percentage of total U.S. export tonnage shipped by air rose to 0.74 percent, a 4.4 percent increase over 2003 levels.
U.S. air import tonnage as a percentage of all-mode import tonnage rose 2.8 percent to 0.43 percent, while bi-directionally the tonnage growth in air outpaced the tonnage growth for goods moving by vessel, according to the survey.
