AUG 19, 2005 (newstodate): The Ukrainean logistics and transportation, including air cargo market is still in its early stage, but changes are underway.
-The market is dominated by imports by land transportation, primarily from Russia and Europe, while exports to these areas are secondary in importance, says Gunnar Aru, Schenker Ukraine Ltd country manager since May this year.
-For air cargo, the situation is still rather difficult, with Ukrainean customs being the main bottleneck due to bureaucracy and time-consuming procedures leading to very long lead-times with import shipments, and complex export handling as well.
-Still, things are improving, and the Ukrainean customs are now moving towards a one-window concept to allow customers to complete all procedures at a single point of contact.
-As air cargo is focussed on deadlines and transit times, the situation is still rather difficult, and it will take some time to realise the potentials of this means of transportation, he says.
