AUG 22, 2005 (newstodate): Effective from September 22, Singapore Airlines Cargo launches a new twice-weekly freighter service through Copenhagen connecting with the North Atlantic and the Indian market.
Originating at Singapore, the westbound routing is Delhi and Copenhagen to Chicago, while the eastbound routing is Chicago to Copenhagen and from there to Delhi on one flight, and to Bangalore on the other, before final return to Singapore.
-One part of the main concept is providing the region's only full-freighter service to Chicago that is invariably on Scandinavia's IATA top-3 list of destinations, says Kim Irmov, Singapore Airlines regional manager Nordic and Baltic region.
-The other part is introducing a freighter service between the Nordic region and India that is becoming increasingly important both import- and exportwise.
-Delhi is especially attractive to a number of Swedish and Finnish IT companies, while Bangalore is gaining importance especially in the Danish market.
-So as Singapore Airlines Cargo now increases its number of freighter services from five to nine weekly calls at Copenhagen, the increase is not adding just another frequency between Scandinavia and Singapore, but rather introducing capacity between Scandinavia and North America and India, respectively. Which is indeed a novelty and a major new engagement, says Kim Irmov.
The new freighter frequencies are facilitated by the imminent delivery of Singapore Airlines' 15th Boeing 747-400 freighter.
