AUG 30, 2005 (newstodate): As an increasing number of countries are preparing to publish lists of unsafe airlines, many airlines in Eastern Europe are anxious to prove their safety record.
Referring to Italian recommnendations, the Serbian carrier JAT has said it is confident of having an established safety record that will keep it off any list, and Montenegro Airlines says it meets even the most regorous a safety standards EU may introduce.
Montenegro Airlines' claim follows on rumours that the airline may be excluded from the safe airlines-list published by France.
So far, the only East European airlines banned by Western agencies for inadequate safety are Ukrainean carrier South Airlines and Armenian carrier Air Van Airlines that are both on Belgium's black list.
The United Kingdom has also banned any aircraft registered in or operated by a carrier in Tajikistan from landing at UK airports.
