AUG 23, 2005 (newstodate): During the coming winter program, SAS Cargo will further increase its airfreight trucking services between Scandinavia and Poland.
-Poland is a growing and important market market, but there is heated pressure on rates and this makes prospects for a dedicated freighter services rather dim, says Teddy Zebitz, SAS Cargo VP Network & Revenue Management.
-Current loads in the market could not warrant Boeing 737-size freighter services, and while the costs of chartering older Russian-built freighters like the AN-12 are relatively low, operational costs are prohibitive due to the high fuel consumption by these aircraft, he says.
-SAS Cargo staff is located at all SAS destinations in Poland, and especially the US Midwest market, served from Chicago, is crucial for us, so the trucking network between Scandinavia and Poland is adjusted to serve this traffic, he says
