AUG 30, 2005 (newstodate): A Cyprus Turkish Airlines Boeing 737 lifted on Monday night from Ercan Airport for a flight to Baku, Azerbaijan.
This was the first international flight beyond Turkey by the airline, and a continuation of the efforts by the Azerbaijani government to break the international isolation of the Turkish republic on Cyprus.
In July an aircraft from Azerbaijani Imair Airways was the first to land on northerhn Cyprus, amidst much international alarm.
Onboard the Cypriotic aircraft was a high-ranking official delegation, and talks will be held on the inauguration of regular scheduled flights between the two parties.
