AUG 01, 2005 (newstodate): Within two months, three new EU member states must convince the EU Commission of their compliance with EU legislation governing noise regulations.
The EU Commission has sent reasoned opinions, the final step before a formal complaint is lodged with the court, to Estonia, Latvia and Malta over their failure to implement the European legislation.
The three new EU members since May, 2004, should have taken measures to implement the directive by 1 May 2004, but so far EU has not received documentation of their compliance.
To avoid being taken to court, the three members must produce the documentation before the end of September.
