AUG 05, 2005 (newstodate): Lufthansa Systems has been EASA-certified as meeting the mandatory requirements for the production of navigation data.
Based on the certification, more than 110 airlines currently using Lufthansa Systems' Lido FMS database can apply to their aviation authority for use of the new precision area navigation procedures.
The new precision approach and departure procedures represent a major innovation in flight navigation and will be permitted from October 2005, provided they are based on certified navigation data.
The new procedures will have a positive bearing on both air safety and airline cost efficiency.
