AUG 04, 2005 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo has now solved its temporary problems with trans-shipments through Beijing Airport to other Chinese mainland destinations.
-The embargo on all foreign airlines for trans-shipments via Beijing was supposed to take effect from 15 July 15. Initially we got 15 days extension from Customs in Beijing, and this was later extended up to August 30, says Nils Haupt, Lufthansa Cargo VP Corporate Communications.
-Meanwhile, the requirement from China's customs and CAAC was for us to apply for the permission by a formal letter as was then duly done. Next they wanted our Joint venture-partner Air China to state that they do not have any objection in carrying LCAG cargo to other mainland destinations.
-In a meeting between Air China and Customs, Air China verbally confirmed this, producing an official letter of 'no objection' to customs yesterday, says Mr Haupt.
After this, the red tape on transfer cargo beyond Beijing has now been lifted off Lufthansa Cargo.
