AUG 31, 2005 (newstodate): The Russian ban on the long-range aircraft IL-96-300 may soon be lifted.
Sources say the Russian Federal Service for Transportation Supervision and the Federal Agency for Industry have agreed on measures required for the aircraft to regain its airworthiness certificate, and after that the modification of the aircraft brakes, that are identified as the main concern, can proceeed.
The flight ban has forced operators of the aircraft, notably Aeroflot, to revise its traffic program, including cancellations of some international routes and change of aircraft types on other flights.
