AUG 09, 2005 (newstodate): The modernisation of Tblisi Airport, Georgia, is facing delays after two companies have withdrawn from the consortium that won the tender.
On May 16, 2005, A consortium comprising the Turkish Celebi Group, Luxembourg-based GTS, and the U.S. A&J won the tender opened by the Georgian government.
But the GTS and A&J reportedly failed to meet the deadlines for presentation of the financial guarantees and are now out of the project.
The winning consortium was expected to manage the airport under an 11 year contract after the completion of the airport project within one year against the 1.5 years contained in the tender details.
The outcome of the tender was immediately protested by several losing parties.
