AUG 12, 2005 (newstodate)(: The good news is that flight volumes in European airspace are setting new records this year. The bad news is that Europe's air traffic network capacity lags behind growth.
According to Eurocontrol, air traffic in Europe is now estimated to grow by 4.4 percent this year, uprated from 3.8 percent in earlier forecasts, with several days marked by more than 30,000 flights.
But planned network capacity increase in Europe is of four percent, which suggests that traffic growth will not be matched by capacity growth.
Eurocontrol warns that this may lead to flow delays and put air safety at risk.
