AUG 15, 2005 (newstodate): The Chinese government has still not offically responded to Taiwan's unilateral lifting of its ban on Taiwanese commercial aircraft flying through Mainland airspace.
Last week, the Taiwanese government revoked its ban after 50 years, and the Mainland Affairs Council stated that there was no need for bilateral negotiations on this matter.
Also the legal procedures for airline companies to file applications were drafted within three business days after the announcement was made, so all that remains is for the Mainland to acceede to the initiative, seen as a forerunner of allowing direct transportation links across the Taiwan Strait.
