AUG 18, 2005 (newstodate): The idea of direct passenger and cargo charter flights over the Taiwan Strait has now been welcomed by the Chinese government.
Speaking to visiting Taiwanese opposition politicians, the head of China's Taiwan Affairs Office said the government would "bear in mind" to take flexible, pragmatic and efficient measures to actively push for the early implementation of direct charter passenger and cargo flights.
The KMT politicians suggest that China allow Dalian, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Xian and Chengdu to have direct cargo flight links with Taiwan.
