AUG 22, 2005 (newstodate): The Icelandair Group has now completed the acquisition of Bluebird Cargo after a due diligence process.
With a staff of 50 employees, Bluebird Cargo operates five Boeing 737 cargo aircraft, of which two are owned, and 80 percent of its operation is on the international market.
Bluebird operates in cooperation with international freight forwarders and cargo airlines such as UPS and Cargolux, and one freighter is operated on the market to and from Iceland.
Also part of the deal is Bluebird Cargo subsidiary Flugflutningar that operates as a freight forwarder in the Icelandic market.
In cooperation with Cargolux, UPS Air Cargo and LTU Flugflutningar offers service to most international destinations via air and road connections.
Bulebird Cargo was etablished in 2000 by a group of investors including its managing director Thor Kjartansson, now following the company into the Icelandair Group.
