AUG 12, 2005 (newstodate): Integrators are winning over airlines in the struggle for the air cargo shipments claims AMI, Air Menzies International.
In a relase by the company, AMI reports an increase in demand for integrator services by more than 25 percent in 2004, compared to a drop at eight percent by airlines.
AMI says that while airfreight shipments into Europe were down 16 percent in terms of tonnage in 2004, AMI saw its integrator-based door-to-door products with TNT up "five-fold".
According to AMI, the switch in forwarders' preferences is due to need for more value-adding products, especially at lower weights. Simple pricing by the integrators, including fewer cost elements and one rate per country or zone, also weighs heavily.
Among other factors listed by AMI are greater reliability for to-door shipments, better service recovery, quicker customs clearance and superior IT solutions.
-To regain lost ground, airlines need comparable IT solutions that facilitate bookings and tracking and tracing. They also need simpler and more stable pricing structures. The integrators have proved this can be done through serious customer focus, says Nigel Moolenaar, AMI general manager commercial, in the release.
