AUG 15, 2005 (newstodate): If succesful, the new Russian airline alliance AIRUnion will become Russia's second largest aviation company, after Aeroflot.
The alliance currently comprises KrasAir, based at Krajsnojarsk, Omskavia, based at Omsk, Samara Airlines, based at Samara, Domodedovo Airlines, based at Moscow, and Sibaviatrans, based at Krasjnojarsk, but more Russian airlines are expected to join at a later stage.
In total, the AIRUnion airlines operate around 100 commercial aircraft.
32 percent of the stake in the AIRUnion rest with the Russian state, while 20 percent are held by KrasAir and Domodedovo Airlines, respectively, with the remaining shares held by other parties.
The airline alliance builds on the former AirBridge Alliance that also comprised Omskavia, KrasAir, Sibaviatrans, Samara, and Domodedovo Airlines.
According to the plans, AIRUnion will operate as a separate legal entity from the end of 2005.
