AUG 17, 2005 (newstodate): The US FAA will introduce the benefits of ADS-B to airline operators and ATM service providers in Africa.
They will be attending the 11th Aviation & Allied Business Leadership Conference at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from September 5 to 7, 2005.
ADS-B may provide African ATM providers with a low cost, high precision tool to locate and identify all traffic by aircraft, ground vehicles or equipment at airports, and the exact position, altitude, direction and speed of any aircraft in the air, based on interchange of real-time GPS-based information.
ADS-B may therefore compensate for existing inadequacies in African ATM systems and airport infrastructure, greatly contributing to the continent's air and airside safety.
