JUL 06, 2005 (newstodate): SAAB Aircraft Leasing has delivered the first of two SAAB 340A freighter aircraft to US operator IBC Airways, based in Miami, Florida.
In the freighter version, the SAAB 340 has a capacity around 3.4 tonnes of air cargo.
SAAB Aircraft Leasing manages a portfolio of 289 SAAB 340 and SAAB 2000 aircraft leased to 25 customers in 13 countries.
-SAAB produced a total of around 150 340A aircraft that could now increasingly be attractive for conversion into freighters, says Matthew Smith, SAAB Aircraft Leasing.
-As of today we have delivered a total of eight 340A cargo conversion kits, and three cargo aircraft are already operating in the USA.
According to Mr Smith, SAAB Aircraft Leasing will increasingly focus on the developing markets in Russia, CIS, E and SW Europe where the demand for a small, non-palletised freighter might be growing among operators in the express and courier business.
