JUL 06, 2005 (newstodate): A former Soviet air forcase, Modlin Airport's hopes for an early start of commercial operations as a low cost altenative to Warsaw Okecie Airport are now cooling off.
Although the airport may see its first commercial operations from late this autumn, the state's demand for a tender process before a company can take on resposibility for running the airport will entail a significant delay in formal processes.
The master plan for Modlin Airport, developled by UK consultants Stanley Associates, includes the construction of a small terminal facility, a medium-sized cargo terminal, and reserved sites for other potential industrial and semi-agricultural processing works in the region.
