JUL 01, 2005 (newstodate): The U.S. FAA has raised Greece's safety rating from Category 2 to 1, the highest level.
The upgrading follows on a reassessment of the country's civil aviation authority conducted in May 2005.
The Category 1 rating means that the Greek civil aviation authority has been assessed by FAA inspectors and has been found to license and oversee air carriers in accordance with ICAO's aviation safety standards.
