JUL 08, 2005 (newstodate): Etihad Cargo, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is building up a strong air cargo position in the Emirates.
During 2004, its first year of operation, the company lifted a total of 20,000 tonnes of air cargo while this year's target is set for in excess of 100,000 tonnes.
The latest cargo figures from May place Etihad at the top of the list at Abu Dhabi as Etihad generated 27 percent of the airport's total figures, up from 16 percent one year before.
Etihad now operates one A300-600F and one A310-300F, with a second A300-600F to be added this autumn.
Four more freighters will be taken in next year, increasing the fleet to a total of seven freighters as per today's order book.
Ethiad's freighters call at Frankfurt thrice a week, at Mumbai once a week, and at Amman, Milan and Chennai twice a week.
The company is also now setting up a road feeder service to truck airfreight between the capitals in the UAE.
With more aircraft to join its fleet, Etihad plans to expand its network to comprise 30 passenger and freighter destinations by the end of this year.
