JUN 17, 2005 (newstodate): Air safety gets a further boost in Arab airspace as a number of states have agreed on a plan to form a joint Middle East Monitoring Agency.
The new center, supported by Arab Air Carriers Association and ICAO, will be backed by Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The cost, estimated at 300,000 US dollars for the first year, will be split between the states and recovered through increasing the en-route charges in accordance with ICAO air navigational policies and in coordination with IATA, according to AACA.
The new center will monitor traffic through the region's Reduced Vertical Separation Minima, RVSM airspace.
