JUN 03, 2005 (newstodate): During the period 2004-2010, Norway's export air cargo is expected to grow at a rate of 5.6 percent annually, says a recent Lufthansa Cargo study.
In 2004 Norway generated a total of 74,264 tonnes of export air cargo, set to increase to 103,122 tonnes by 2010, the study says.
In 2004, Norwegian air cargo exports to Asia/Pacific topped the list, thanks to the Norwegian fresh salmon exports to Japan and other Asian markets.
Norway shipped a total of 51,225 tonnes to this region, accounting for 68.9 percent of totals.
Second came airfreight destined for the North Atlantic markets accruing to 9,627 tonnes, or 12.9 percent.
According to the forecast, airfreight exports to the Asia/Pacific region will grow by 6.6 percent annually, while exports to North America will grow by 2.4 percent only.
In the Nordic region, Norway tops the list as to annual growth rates till 2010, followed by Sweden, 5.2 percent, Finland, 5.0 percent, and Denmark, 4.9 percent.
Sweden, however, remains the region's single largest export air cargo market generating a total of 153,863 tonnes in 2004, followed by Denmark's 78,348 tonnes, Norway's 74,778 tonnes, and Finland's 62,991 tonnes.
