JUN 14, 2005 (newstodate): SAS Cargo will meet with NAP, Nordic Airport Properties, on June 23 to discuss the plans for a new cargo terminal, dedicated to SAS Cargo at Stockholm Arlanda.
NAP is a joint-venture between Swedish Luftfartsverket and Airis, and plans are to let NAP invest in terminal facilities that are then rented to operators.
-We are fully aware that NAP would like to see an early decision and a commitment by SAS to a new termnal in Arlanda Cargo City, but for our part there is no rush, and we will make no decision at the meeting, says Anders Skantz, president for Spirit Air Cargo handling AB, SAS Cargo's handling subsidiary.
-Before 9/11, Arlanda Airport foresaw a need to relocate SAS Cargo from its currrent locality to make way for commuter aircraft parking. Since then traffic has declined, and there is no immediate need for us to move, he says.
-We are of course listening to various proposals, and if a tempting offer including reasonable costs and rent is presented we will consider it. But so far the options outlined by NAP have been far too expensive, and we have no problems with remaining in our current terminal, says Mr Skantz.
LFV at Stockholm Arlanda last month told newstodate that "the long drawn-out decision is now expected "within the very near future", and plans are ready for construction of a new 20-25,000 sq.m. terminal dedicated to SAS Cargo."
