JUN 02, 2005 (newstodate): Modlin Airport, in Central Poland, is currently being developed to present an alternative to Warsaw Okecie Airport for low cost carriers.
Based on a masterplan, the airport is reportedly in the final design stages for a new terminal, with construction work soon to start.
Runway re-surfacing is also progressing, and the airport is readying for start of operations by this autumn, sources say.
The master plan by UK consultants Stanley Associates includes the construction of a small terminal facility, a medium-sized cargo terminal, and reserved sites for other potential industrial and semi-agricultural processing works in the region.
Modlin Airport is a former Soviet air force base.
