JUN 30, 2005 (newstodate): After being on the verge of retreating in 2002 from Cargo 2000, Lufthansa Cargo is now a staunch supporter of the process.
-Since 2002, Cargo 2000 has developed strongly and realised two important targets. First, participants have moved from a "patchwork-like" selective attitude to the individual elements in Cargo to a firm backing of a structured roll-lout of Cargo 2000 including implementing quality measuring at a growing number of hubs and lanes, says Wolfgang Schmitz, Lufthansa Cargo VP.
-Secondly, the commitment to start publishing Cargo 2000 statistics has spurred a very positive development. Cargo 2000 shipments and lane segments are both significantly up - Cargo 2000 shipments growing by 60 percent over the last six months alone.
-The first Cargo 2000 statistics are out now, and from now new statistics will be issued on a monthly basis. The next milestones will be to increase quality further, and to increase also the quality of the figures further. Today the statistics cover a small portion of the business only, not all shipments, and after a period of time we will add other relevant facets as well, Mr Schmitz says.
