JUN 09, 2005 (newstodate): The ongoing construction work at Kaliningrad's airport will not be completed in time for the celebrations of the city's 750 anniversary festivities, July 3-5.
Prominent guests including the Russian president and the German chancellor will participate in the events, forcing the re-surfacing of the airport's runways to a temporary halt.
The construction process has therefore been split into two phases, allowing for a temporaty opening of the airport for VIP traffic serving some 50 European delegations.
After the event, the airport will return to normal again, including the re-inposition of the strict limitations on aircraft movements that will be allowed for only a few hours, four days a week.
