JUN 23, 2005 (newstodate): Swedish airport Gothenburg Landvetter's air cargo volumes still testify to the loss of traffic after Polar Air Cargo's decision to re-locate to Malmo Airport by the end of last year.
Thus, total cargo volumes during the first five months of 2005 were down by 11 percent, to 23,167 tonnes, with exports down 26 percent to 9,355 tonnes, while imports were up three percent to 13,812 tonnes.
In May the airport generated a total of 4,556 tonnes, down 12 percent, including exports at 1,742 tonnes, down 29 percent, and imports at 2,814 tonnes, up three percent.
Today's freighter traffic at Gothenburg Landvetter comprises seven weekly calls by Emirates SkyCargo that operates two weekly return flights on the route between New York and Dubai via Gothenburg, in addition to three weekly flights from Gothenburg to Hong Kong via Dubai.
SAS Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo also operate five weekly freighter flights from Frankfurt via Gothenburg to Osaka. One of these flights call at Gothenburg on the return flight, while the other four flights return directly to Frankfurt.
Finnair Cargo cooperates with Emirates on the Gothenburg-New York legs, while SAS Cargo cooperates with Emirates on the freighter service to Hong Kong.
