JUN 08, 2005 (newstodate): In May, Finnair Cargo saw its total cargo volumes down by 0.2 percent to 7,654 tonnes.
The decline was driven primarily by a drop in cargo on the company's scheduled freighter services, down 30.4 percent to 1,053 tonnes, and by a fall in domestic cargo by 5.4 percent to 339 tonnes.
Cargo on scheduled services, 6,556 tonnes, was on the rise, including cargo on routes to and from Asia that increased by 8.5 percent to 3,272 tonnes.
The North Atlantic traffic also fared well, up 31.8 percent to 685 tonnes, while European cargo grew only 1.5 percent to 2,260 tonnes.
In May, capacity was up by 5.2 percent, while traffic increased by 5.2 percent, resulting in a growth in load factor by 1.3 percentage points to 62 percent.
While increasing, the relatively low load factor reflects the export/import imbalance notably in the Asian cargo services.
