JUN 09, 2005 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo has suspended its twice weekly DHL Aviation Boeing 757F service from Vienna to Helsinki.
The route cut reduced the carrier's cargo on freighter services by 30.4 percent to 1,053 tonnes in the latest statistics for May.
-The service was suspended because of the weak profitability and dramatically increased fuel costs, says Timo Riihimakki, Finnair Cargo Assistant VP Marketing & Industry Affairs.
-The flight will remain suspended for the time being. We have instead arranged an alternative service via Luxembourg based on our cooperation with Cargolux since November 26, 2004, for a weekly freighter from Luxembourg via Helsinki to Hong Kong.
Earlier, Finnair Cargo operated a freighter service from Cologne to Helsinki, but this was replaced by the cooperation with Cargolux.
The freighter service, now closed down, from Vienna was set up to serve traffic between markets in Eastern Europe and Helsinki, connecting with Finnair's Far Eastern, notably Chinese routes.
