JUN 20, 2005 (newstodate): Ukrainean airline Aerosvit is forced to delay the start of its new route between Kiev and Chicago, initially slated for April 2006.
This follows from the US FAA's downrating of Ukraine's status from FAA Category 1 to Category 2.
-U.S. FAA is well familiar with our flight operations, making regular checks on AeroSvit Airlines flights to the United States. Besides, before commencing flights to North America, in 2002-2003 AeroSvit Airlines underwent full-scale certification on its compliance with applicable aviation security, aircraft maintenance and flight crews' training requirements that were substantially heightened by the FAA following the acts of terrorism on September 11th, 2001, the airline says.
-The airline looks forward to FAA's revision of its ruling after Ukraine brings its national civil aviation practices in compliance with applicable ICAO flight safety standards. This will allow us to lift restrictions on further development of transatlantic flights from Ukraine.
