JUN 06, 2005 (newstodate): The Onur Air case has spurred EU to agree on new procedues when member states act on aircraft safety issues concerning third country carriers.
The Turkish airline was prohibited from flying in four countries, including three EU member states, due to failures noted in safety requirements, but managed to deviate its flights to neighboring EU states.
Meeting on May 26, the EU committee of air safety experts decided to extend to all member states the conditions recently put in place by the four countries concerned in order to lift Onur Air's grounding.
The experts also agreed to create a warning system when a member state plans to take measures with regard to a third country airline in order to avoid the confusion experienced around the "Onur Air case".
