JUN 27, 2005 (newstodate): Commercial traffic has been resumed at Baghdad airport, Iraq, after a two-days suspension due to a rift between the security company and the Iraqi government.
The UK-based Global Risk Strategies that employs some 500 staff, mainly from Fiji and former Indian Gurkhas, at Baghdad Airport claims that it has not been paid for months by the Iraqi signatory to the contract.
Despite continued lack of a solution, work has, however, been resumed in recognition of the crucial importance to the country of re-opening commercial activities.
Military operations has not been affected by the rift as an independent military force is in charge of ATC, security and other services to non-commercial operators.
