JUN 16, 2005 (newstodate): To cope with increasing demands during the forthcoming summer peak traffic, Budapest Ferihegy Airport has relocated handling of 14 airlines at the airport.
While usually dedicated to serve Malev, the airport's Terminal 2A has now been opened to handle traffic from Air Europe, Air Finland, Air Malta, Alitalia, Carpatair, CSA, Egyptair, Hola Airlines, LOT, Moldavian Airlines, Montenegro Airlines, Nouvelair Tunisia, TAP Portugal and Tarom.
These airlines have so far been handled at the airport ageing Terminal 2A.
Low cost carrier traffic was earlier relocated to the old Terminal 1, but these carriers have protested against increased handling fees that they feel do not reflect the level of service quality provided.
New airport terminals will ease the pressure, but more initiatives and investments are needed as new operators take over management of the airport after the closure of the ongoing tender for privatisation of Hungary's only international airport.
